Vision
Ilryong Moon cares about helping make Fairfax County Public Schools the best in America because he understands first-hand the value of a good education.
When Ilryong immigrated to the United States in 1974, he had to repeat the 10th grade due to difficulty with the English Language. After graduating from T.C. Williams High School in 1977, Ilryong went on to graduate from Harvard University and is now a partner in a successful law practice.
As a product of public schools, he knows just how much a quality public education can mean for young people today. During his tenure in office, Ilryong oversaw much needed improvements and continuous advancement in this world-class school system—one of the country’s best.
Ilryong believes in:
- Continuous improvement in our world-class school system.
- Efficient administration, leaving money for the classroom.
- Recruiting and maintaining the best teachers and employees.
- Helping all of our students reach their full potential and compete in the 21st century global economy.
- Providing adequate facilities and technology.
- Eliminating the achievement gap.
Successes during his twelve years in office:
- Academics continuously improved even as per-pupil cost dropped.
- Administrative costs were reduced—saving taxpayers money.
- Our schools ranked among the country’s best, with over 90% of students graduating on time and continuing on to post-secondary education.
- Full-Day Kindergarten expanded countywide.
- The achievement gap fell, with fewer minority students being left behind each year.
